Triple i 2014: Gwendolyn Portzky

Lecturer at the conference

Triple i – intuition, imagination and innovation, is an international annual conference organised by the UP IAM Slovene Centre for Suicide Research. Distinguished experts in the field of suicidology are invited to the conference to speak about research, interventions and postvention after suicide. Relaxed environment and concurrent topics create a platform for the participants to connect, which is a starting point for progress in the field.

One of the speakers at the Triple i 2014 was Prof. Gwendolyn Portzky.

Prof. Gwendolyn Portzky (Unit for Suicide Research, Ghent University) is interested in development of national suicide prevention strategies and possibilities for internet-based suicide prevention strategies. Her lecture will be on technology-based suicide prevention (TBSP) programs, which offer many opportunities for prevention of suicidal behavior.

Prof. Gwendolyn’s message to young researchers, professionals, students:

Take the time to get to know the field of suicidology and especially the complexity of suicidal behavior. It helps a lot to have a mentor who guides you and to discuss things with experienced suicidologists. Try to make the combination with clinical work because this can help understanding the complexity of suicide if you work and talk with suicidal patients.
